Tips for a smooth shave

Many men today are discovering that shaving is an art that is worth mastering.  A bar of bath soap and a disposable razor may seem quick and cheap but is it worth tearing up your face on a regular basis? I know that those disposable razors are inexpensive but they are not even worth what they cost. I suggest that you invest in one of the 3 or 4 bladed razors because you will feel a huge difference.
If you take the time to look, you will find shelves filled with fine men’s' skin-care products including some outstanding shaving products. There are companies that have created entire skin care regimens marketed towards men.
Proper skin preparation prior to shaving is the key to a smooth comfortable shave. Start with a good exfoliating scrub. This removes dead skin cells from the surface. Apply pre-shave oil to the beard followed by the shaving gel or cream of your choice. Try a brush type shaving cream. This may seem “old school” but there is a certain charm to it. Also, it really stimulates the beard prior to shaving!
The first pass over the beard should be in the direction of the hair growth, not against it. This reduces pulling on the hairs and greatly lessens irritation of the skin. During the shaving process, rinse the blade often and in cold water.
After shaving the entire face, go back and check for closeness by running your fingertips over the skin in the opposite direction of the hair growth and touching up as needed with the razor. Once again, try to avoid shaving “against the grain”. I recommend touch ups across the grain.
In summary:
Exfoliate the skin, use pre-shave oil and a quality shave gel or cream, use a good multi-bladed razor and try not to shave against the grain.
 Namaste.
